Wondering what to get your mum for Mother’s Day? Look no further...

1. Vase of flowers

Instead of a vase or flowers this year, why not buy your mum a painting of both?

On offer at Roseberys on March 2 is an oil on canvas by Florence Engelbach (1872-1951). Unlike real flowers, this is a gift that will never fade.

The artist, who was born in Spain of English parents and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, specialised in still lifes. She exhibited at dealerships including the Lefevre and Goupil galleries and an example of her work, Roses from c.1934–8, can be found in the Tate collection.

This 23.5 x 2ft 4in (60 x 72cm) signed oil on canvas is estimated at £250-350.

2. Gold bracelet

A gold bracelet estimated at £200-250 at Denhams.

Mums just love receiving jewellery for Mother’s Day and hundreds of items such as brooches, rings, earrings, necklaces, gemstones and diamonds appear at auctions on thesaleroom.com every week.

3. Silver pendant

A silver pendant by Charles Horner – estimated at £150-250 at Elstob & Elstob.

An art nouveau silver pendant by Charles Horner is among the lots on offer at Elstob & Elstob’s ‘Signed and Designed’ sale on March 5.

It dates from 1912 and is designed as a kite-shaped scroll frame with three orange paste-set thistle drops.

It is estimated at £150-250.

4. Hermès silk scarf

What mum wouldn’t want a touch of luxury from a brand like Hermès for Mother’s Day?

Among such pieces coming up at auctions on this website is a Hermès 'Équateur' silk scarf which is being offered at Fellows on March 1.

The scarf with maker’s box was designed by Robert Dallet in 1988 and features a design of the flora and fauna of the equatorial zone of South America on a turquoise background. It measures 2ft 11in x 2ft 11in (90 x 90cm) and is estimated at £150-200.

5. Chocolate pot

Silver hot chocolate pot – estimated at £80-120 at Bourne End Auction Rooms.

Chocolates are of course a perennial Mother’s Day favourite. But while you might not find much edible chocolate selling at auction, you can find plenty of implements for making or serving a chocolate in a variety of its forms.

An example is this Edward VII silver hot chocolate pot by London maker Charles Boyton & Son.

It dates from 1910 and will be offered at Bourne End Auction Rooms on March 3.

The pot is estimated at £80-120.
