Time to bid on a Bulova
18 February 2022 "America runs on Bulova time" - so said the the world's first paid-for television advertisement broadcast on before a baseball game on July 1 1941.US audiences would already have been familiar with the watchmaker's tagline, having heard it many times already on radio and seen it in newspaper advertisements.
Three decades later a Bulova chronograph was worn by Apollo 15 mission commander David Scott during a walk on the surface of the moon (he had exeprienced some problems with his NASA standard issue Omega Speedmaster so took his back-up Bulova with him that day instead).
These days Bulova, founded in 1875, isn't quite as American as it once was, having been sold to Japanese watch maker Citizen at the end of 2007 but its watches remain at the more affordable end of the market and offer an interesting alternative to much more expensive Swiss brands.
At auctions you can browse a range of Bulovas from different periods to see the various styles that were produced. Here is a selection of Bulovas coming up for sale soon.
