Six lots at auction to give you an eye-catching Modern or Art Deco look
25 June 2021 A wide selection of art, antiques, furniture and jewellery is on offer at an upcoming auction which includes a variety of works providing a strikingly modern look.Here we pick out six lots to give a flavour of what’s on offer at the sale at Stamford Auction Rooms on July 31.
1. Studio pottery soap dish
Looking for something to add a touch of colour to your bathroom? This 20th century studio pottery soap dish, pictured above, ticks the boxes for both style and function. Made by Vicky Walton, a designer and painter who worked with Quentin Bell at the Fulham Pottery, it is estimated at £40-60.

2. Starburst mirror
A trademark Art Deco style piece which is bound to turn heads, this giltwood starburst mirror features a central roundel centre bordered by 36 mirrored segments. It measures 3ft 4in (1.01m) in diameter and is estimated at £70-100.

3. Lalique horse
Among a strong selection of Art Deco style glass at the Stamford sale, this Lalique Kazak glass horse is estimated at £100-200.
Etched ‘Lalique France’ to one side, it measures 4.5 x 7in (11.5 x 18cm).

4. Ralph Lauren sofa
If you’re in need of something stylish to sit on to watch the football this summer, this Ralph Lauren leather three-seater sofa could be just the thing. It is estimated at £600-800 at the Stamford sale.

5. Spelter book ends
The auction in Stamford features a large group of modern and Art Deco figures, sculptures and works of art. Among them is this pair of gilded spelter leaping deer book ends.
Measuring 8.25in (21cm) high, they are estimated at £200-400.

6. Art Deco brooch
If you’re keen on modern jewellery and looking to splash the cash, the Stamford auction will include this stunning 18ct yellow gold, platinum, ruby, diamond and aquamarine brooch.
The hexagonal cut aquamarine totals approximately 12cts and is housed within a lozenge platinum setting. It is estimated at £3000-5000.
