26 April 2024
After 50 years of dealing, Ken Bolan of West Country and London shop Talisman, is retiring.
After a sculpture by Antonio Canova (1757-1822), this large white 19th century marble figure ‘The Dancer’, shown here as a detail, has an estimate of £15,000-25,000.
To mark the occasion he is offering more than 250 lots at Dreweatts on May 14 in the auction Ken Bolan: My Mind’s Eye. The sale shows off the breadth of his interest and the variety of his stock with estimates ranging from just 100-£60,000.
Here we look at some of the notable lots on offer at the auction.
Offered with an estimate of £4000-6000, this early 20th century Compton Pottery owl is depicted on a plinth base stamped to the underside “Compton Pottery Guildford”.
Alain Chervet’s Toledo, a Verdigris brass centre table from the last quarter of the 20th century, has an estimate of £6000-8000.
This Italian ceramic lamp from the mid-late 20th century is estimated at £400-600.
