Scandi-dandy interior pieces to give your home a cool look this autumn
12 October 2020 The Scandinavian concept of hygge might be ‘so two years ago’, but 20th century design from Norway, Denmark and Sweden continues to appeal.Defined by minimalism, functionality and often space-saving, Scandinavian designs continue to be popular with private buyers and interior decorators alike. Nothing outstrips the popularity of classic mid-century designs, a number of which can be found at Lyon & Turnbull’s Modern Made auction on October 23.
Below we pull out five examples to bid for and buy on thesaleroom.com.
Arne Jacobsen
When you think ‘Scandinavian’ you might automatically think of muted colours, such as brown and beige. Not so with this ‘pre-pop’ dining set (pictured above) by Functionalist Danish designer Arne Jacobsen (1902-71). Made by Asko c.1969 it is a late work by the designer and an amusing example of design for the ‘Swinging Sixties’. It is made with birch and painted plywood and comprises a table and four chairs offered together with an estimate of £800-1200.
