Place a bid, pull a cracker: five timed online auctions to view this festive season

The holiday season is upon and no matter how carefully you’ve planned ahead there are unexpected gifts that need wrapping, a pageant costume that still hasn’t been made and now the neighbours want to have you over for mulled wine.

This Georgian era ring in Essex crystal depicts a dog and has a diamond halo is offered with a gold and antique box. It is lot one in Bank Jewellery Auctions’ sale of Antiques & Vintage Jewellery and Watches where it has an estimate of £1100-1150. The auction runs until December 19.

It can be one of the busiest times of the year, and you definitely don’t have time to sit in front of your laptop waiting until deep in a sale for your favourite item to pop up. That’s why timed online auctions are perfect for the holiday season. You can pick up a last minute gift or treat yourself to something nice at your own convenience.

Running throughout the whole festive season is The 1 Euro Discovery sale run by Viennese auction house Art Antique Gallery & Auctioneers. Everything in the sale has an opening bid of just €1, but don’t be fooled – there are plenty of treasures to be found here, both historic and modern. For example, this Austrian or Bohemian glass centerpiece with a canted bowl dates to c.1840 and is one of the many examples of fine glasswork in the sale. Bidding closes January 15.

Ring

Closing on December 14 is a liquidation sale of new diamond jewellery at Alister Grant in Bury. Among the items on offer is this 18ct rose gold halo set ring featuring a round brilliant cut diamond surrounded by 16 smaller round brilliant cut diamonds with a further 12 on the shoulders. Bidding opens at £1200.

Among the items offered at Bonhams’ Emerging Collectors sale ending December 15 is this south Italian red figure oinochoe from the 4th century BC. It previously belonged to Canadian collector Max Klein (1905-91). It is estimated at £600-800.

This Everlast boxing glove signed by Muhammad Ali comes with a certificate of authenticity dated 12/09/05. It is part of C&T Auctioneers and Valuers’ sale of Pop Culture Memorabilia ending December 17 where it is estimated at £200-300.

This Parisian street scene by 20th century artist J Gaston has an estimate of £100-200 at Hutchinson Scott’s December Collectables, Antiques and Interiors sale, which runs until December 17.
