Boring, dusty and expensive: antiques have long had a bad rap in some circles. However, these days with the rise of Cottagecore, maximal interiors and awareness of the importance of recycling, antiques are making a comeback.
Offering an old-world feel and pop of colour, this 19th century continental mantle clock is offered at Potteries Auctions’ sale of November 9-11. With a couple of hairline cracks, the piece is still decorative and is estimated at £30-60.
Though at the top end of the market some pieces can be eye-wateringly expensive, there are also plenty of bargains to be had. Here we list a few quirky items that could lend any interior an unusual antique or vintage touch each estimated at £100 or less.
Never forget the possibilities of upcycling, as with this vintage table and chair, which have both been given a neon makeover. The bijouterie table is Edwardian and the painted elbow chair has been upholstered in lime velour. Either would fit in even in a modern interior, and they are offered at Toovey’s November 2 sale with an estimate of £40-60.
Maybe pair the above with this late 19th century oil or paraffin lamp, which has a cut glass shade and is offered for £30-60 at Special Auction Services. If the bidding goes your way, you could end up with a suite of three items for less than £100.
