Mirror
A large mirror gives the illusion of enlarging and lightening a room and antique style pieces help give the room a sense of grandeur. This antique gilt framed mirror that had previously been in a country house is estimated at £100-200 at Barry Hawkins on April 22.
Table lamps
Nothing brightens a room more than a pair of designer lamps. This bright orange pair of table lamps add a pop of colour. With chrome bases they are by Italian brand Harvey Guzzini. The Italian firm was founded in the 1950s and is famous for styles including this mushroom shape. They are estimated £60-100 at Wotton Auction Rooms’ sale on May 12-13.
Oak chair
With all this time indoors you might want to add another chair to your collection to sit at the window for a change of scenery. This Wainscot chair, an early 18th century oak chair with panelling, will look grand in any corner or window spot and can be brightened up with a cushion or throw. It is estimated at £200-300 on April 23 at Hutchinson Scott.
Sideboard
With more time at home part of your day may be spent in front of your television. Why not buy a feature piece of furniture to improve your view? This 1960's teak sideboard by White & Newton is estimated at £200-250 at Richard Winterton's auction on April 27.
Footstools
Ready to relax? You will need a footstool. Why not have two? This pair of early 19th century giltwood footstools, in a French style in gold upholstery are 8in (20cm) high and estimated at £40-60 at Hansons on April 23.
Tiles
A way to brighten a section of flooring and extend your skills at the same time is to install some salvaged antique tiles. Victorian gothic revival encaustic terracotta tiles by William Godwin & Sons of Hereford are a popular choice for many period homes. But if you want a more shabby chic look, this group might suit you as they are in varying degrees of repair. You can pick up 30 colourful tiles at Richard Winterton's auction on April 27. The group is estimated at £50-70.
Linen chest
You may have found the time to tidy up which may have led you to realise you need more storage space. Why not add a classic oak blanket chest to your home?
