Great Scots from the model railway world are among five to buy in a toys and models selection

Hornby’s O Gauge 4-6-2 Princess Elizabeth LMS 6201 locomotive was a special model issued in 1939 just before the war.
Hornby’s O Gauge 4-6-2 Princess Elizabeth LMS 6201 locomotive estimated £1200-1800 at Tennants. You can place a bid via thesaleroom.com.
It was the only locomotive by the famous toy firm to be a faithful replica of the real train, down to the smallest details.
The full-sized Princess Elizabeth was the most famous of London Midlands Scottish (LMS) railway’s giant locomotives, which made history in 1936 for setting a world record for a long distance non-stop steam journey, which it set on a trip from Glasgow to London travelling at an average speed of 70mph.
Unfortunately, the close modelling on the original train had a drawback. The distinctive three couple wheel design meant that it could not get round the corners on an ordinary curved Hornby track; many of the extant examples of the model, such as the present lot, are to be found in good condition in their original display boxes, as they were not able to be used on the majority of home model railways.
Estimated at £1200-1800, the 20-volt loco is one of the highlights in the Toys, Models, Collectables and Sporting Sale on April 5 in Leyburn, North Yorkshire. It comes in the red display box but the locomotive lacks three wheels from front bogie and both from rear, and the tender lacks all wheels and axle boxes.
Here are five ideas on what to buy at the auction, including Princess Elizabeth (pictured top).
How's Trix?
A further interesting London Midland & Scottish railway locomotive in the Tennants sale is a rare Trix Twin Railway (Bassett-Lowke) Coronation Scot Set, consisting of the 4-6-2 streamlined Coronation locomotive LMS 6220 and one 1st and two brake/3rd class coaches. Coronation was the first of its class of streamlined locomotives, which had distinctive Art Deco lines, and an example of which is in the National Railway Museum in York. The set is estimated at £300-500. Bid for the Trix Twin Railway (Bassett-Lowke) Coronation Scot Set via thesaleroom.com.
Grey matters
A very rare Corgi 462 Commer van promotional issue is estimated at £300-400. An unusual model, it is finished in plain grey rather than the usual metallic blue of the Commer van and is thought to have been made for a company’s promotional campaign although no logos are present on the model. The van is housed in original plain brown box rather than a shop display box and does not have a catalogue number. Estimate £300-400. See thesaleroom.com to check the Corgi 462 Commer van promotional issue.
Another Newcastle United letdown
Among the sporting lots in the sale is an FA Cup Final presentation pennant from the Newcastle vs Manchester United match at Wembley on May 22, 1999. The pennant is being sold in its original box together with two Players’ Guest Tickets to the Mezzanine Bar, a full ticket, a Programme of Arrangements, and a Match Programme. Two pennants were made for Newcastle, one was presented to Roy Keane by Alan Shearer and this spare pennant. It is being sold by a former Newcastle United employee with an estimate of £300-500. North End triumphant
Estimated at £120-180, this football programme is for The Football League 1941 Cup Final between Arsenal and Preston North End, played at Ewood Park, on May 31. It is a single folded sheet. This game was a replay after the first match at Wembley ended 1-1. Preston won the replay 2-1. View the football programme for The Football League 1941 Cup Final on thesaleroom.com
