Gorgeous glassware to bid for at Elstob & Elstob
23 June 2020 There are around 100 lots of glassware coming up at the two-day sale of fine art and antiques held by Elstob & Elstob in Ripon, North Yorkshire.Starting with this collecting category on June 27, the auction is a chance for bidders to snap up many examples vintage and antique glassware, all with estimates of £2500 or less.
Here are a few highlights to look out for.
Lalique Vase
One of the most sought-after names in glass is René Lalique. The jeweller and glassmaker founded his French company in 1888 in Paris and it has been producing collectable glassware ever since. Designed in 1924, this opalescent vase (above) is titled “Ceylan” and is offered with an estimate of £1800-2500.

Liqueur set
Delicate, decorative, and a little different, this 19th century Bohemian blue-overlaid and gilded cut-glass liqueur set has an estimate of £200-300.

18th century wine glass
Among the more historic items on offers is a multi-spiral air-twist wine glass, c.1750. With an estimate of £300-500 the classic piece is one of the higher-priced pieces of antique glassware, but three are plenty more 18th century examples for less to choose from.

Galle vase
Like Lalique, Émile Gallé is a well-known name in the world of antique glassmaking and is known for his Art Nouveau designs. This signed cameo glass vase, acid etched with green leaves and berries, is one of the more affordable Gallé offerings at the auction with an estimate of £150-200.

Apothecary bottles
Vintage apothecary bottles can provide a great, quirky decorative touch in the kitchen or elsewhere in the home. This assortment of four late Victorian clear glass lug examples with recessed labels are offered together with an estimate of £80-120.
