Get the Art Nouveau look at Cheffins’ jewellery auction
08 April 2021 Add a little old world elegance to your life with some of the Art Nouveau lots going under the hammer at Cheffins’ Jewellery, Silver & Watches auction.Taking place on April 15, the sale comprises more than 400 antique items, appealing to many tastes. Among them is the following selection from or inspired by Art Nouveau.
Choice Child & Child
Founded by brothers Walter and Harold Child in 1880, Child & Child specialised in gem-set jewellery. Today their Arts and Crafts pieces, which often feature shades of green, turquoise and blue are highly sought-after. This pendant (pictured above), estimated at £400-600, features a natural pearl suspended between two blue enamel wings with green highlights over chased feather detail.

Silver-plate selection
Lot 300 in the sale features a tray designed by Josef Hoffmann for WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), Geislingen, in silver plated and oxidised Britannia metal. The pressed decoration depicts a child observing a snail. It is offered with an estimate of £80-120 with two silver-plated bottle coasters, each featuring a female profile and cartouche.

A great frame-up
In this lot, a Mappin and Webb, Birmingham Art Nouveau style picture frame from 1904 is offered with three similar frames made by Birmingham companies and dating from 1900 (Mitchell Bosley & Co) and 1903 (one by Williams and one by WJ Myat & Co). They are offered with an estimate of £300-500.

This of Art Nouveau style brooch is offered with an estimate of £100-200 along with a seed pearl and diamond set bangle. The brooch is set with a central seed pearl and turquoise flower and a suspended turquoise dropper.
