Five toy cars to collect if you are missing the joy of the open road
03 April 2020 Thoughts of a long drive on the open road are not realistic for most of us right now, sadly, but you can indulge your love of cars in miniature versions thanks to the sale on April 6 held by Lewes auction house Wallis & Wallis.Among the lots available in this online-only Toys and Models Auction are car toys from well-known manufacturers such as Corgi, Dinky and Matchbox, sold singly or in groups, some boxed, others not, at a wide range of price points.

The 007 DB5
Also missing James Bond now that the latest instalment has been postponed? Try bidding for this rare Corgi Toys James Bond Aston Martin DB5 (270), pictured top. It is catalogued as a Red-Spot wheeled example in metallic silver with red interior, with a note that just a few red spot examples are known to exist and that “this unboxed model was purchased from Mike Tottle (ex Mettoy)”.

Also from Corgi, and even featuring a St Bernard rescue dog, is this scarce Corgi Toys Citroen Safari Alpine Rescue Car (513). In white and red livery, light blue interior, ALPINE RESCUE labels to bonnet and sides, sledge, skis and poles to roof, with original dog and handler figures. It is boxed with the plastic window replaced. Vehicle described as mint.

Alfa Romeo at the races
From another powerhouse of the vehicle toys world comes this rare Dinky Toys Alfa Romeo Racing Car (232). In red, RN8, it is an example with red plastic wheels and grey tyres, and is in a late style box, with some light wear overall. The vehicle is catalogued as mint and the estimate is £100-150.
