Five to buy from Titanic auction including passenger's watch recovered from the sea

A Russian immigrant, Kantor was on his way to America in April 1912 accompanied by his wife Miriam. He was a furrier and intended to sell trunks of furs to fund the couple’s goal to study dentistry and medicine when they arrived.
Kantor’s body was pulled from the icy water during a seven-day recovery operation after the sinking. He was labelled Body No. 283 and embalmed on the ship. Miriam was saved in lifeboat 12. Her husband’s effects were returned to her on May 24 the same year including a ‘silver watch’.
The Swiss-made open-face silver-on-brass watch, with its original movement and a diameter of three inches, includes numerals that are Hebrew figures. The back cover has an embossed design that shows Moses holding the Ten Commandments.
The movement is heavily corroded as a result of immersion in salt water, the hands are nearly all deteriorated and the dial heavily stained.
At Henry Aldridge in Devizes, Wiltshire, on November 11 the estimate is £50,000-80,000.

Carpathia rescue medal
Guided at £2000-3000, this is an unusual bronze crew medal, the reverse inscribed in relief Presented to the Captain Officers and Crew of R.M.S.
