Five to buy from Bamfords’ four-day sale
14 April 2024 From British ceramics to French furniture to rare stamps, Bamfords’ four-day sale has a little something for every antiques lover.
This mid-20th century studio pottery dish by Eric Leaper for Newlyn Pottery of Cornwall is offered with an estimate of £30-40.
The auction runs April 30-May 3 in the Derby saleroom, bringing together several single owner collections including the contents of The Old Rectory of Rangemore, Staffordshire. With prices ranging from £20 to £30,000, there are items to suit every pocket. Here we take a look at some of the offerings.
Estimated at £600-800, this French Etruscan Revival gilt bronze and porcelain mounted mantel clock, c.1870, has an eight-day movement and is decorated with signs of the zodiac and Classical subjects on a terracotta ground.
US artist Edith Barretto Parsons (1878-1956) made this pair of brown patinated bronzes or bookends shaped like terriers. Retailed by Gorham they are estimated at £800-1200.
This George II oak estate office enclosed bureau bookcase has an estimate of £200-300. Made c.1800 it has a projecting base with a fall front enclosing a small door and drawers, pigeonholes and secret compartments.
This diamond and emerald pendant brooch estimated at £400-500, is of open leaf form and set with 19 oval pale green emeralds divided by diamonds.
