Five to buy: classic Design ideas from a dedicated auction
20 June 2022
An exceptionally large ruby lustre charger by Maw & Co is one of the highlights of a North Yorkshire auction on June 25.
Exceptionally large ruby lustre charger by Maw & Co - estimate £3000-5000 at Tennants. You can bid for the Maw & Co charger via thesaleroom.com.
The Stag Hunt, depicting a leaping stag against a plant-filled landscape encircled with running hounds, is marked with the Maw & Co camel couchant mark, and the decorator’s initials MJ. The identity of the decorator has been lost to time; however, an MJ – probably the same artist – is listed as an artist working for William De Morgan from 1880.
The charger comes up for sale in Tennants’ 20th Century Design auction in Leyburn with an estimate of £3000-5000.
This sale includes many classic star names of design, such as Lalique, Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson, Godwin, Tiffany, Galle and Moorcroft, many at 'more affordable' price levels.
