Five scenes by Welsh artist Gareth Thomas offered at Rogers Jones' timed auction
20 August 2021 From his native land to sunny Provence, Welsh artist Gareth Thomas was a prolific painter of landscape scenes.Born in 1955, Thomas originally worked as a teacher but left the profession after only four weeks to pursue his dream of becoming an artist. The gamble paid off. His works quickly found an audience and many buyers became keen collectors of his work.
Now collectors old and new can bid for some prime works by the artist, who died in 2019, during a special timed sale held by Welsh auction house Rogers Jones. The 90-lot studio sale includes Welsh and French oils as well as a selection of other works. It ends on August 27.
Welsh landscape
Thomas’ works reflected the artist’s interest in nature’s forms, colours and moods. This pastel of two figures on an Anglesey beach is entitled Light Breaking through Trearddur Bay. It is offered with an estimate of £400-600, and is among the many Welsh landscapes featured in this sale.

Provence scene
Thomas also painted many scenes from Provence. Although he remained faithful to the landscapes in Wales, he would often rearrange the scenes in his French landscapes to suit his compositions. This oil on board, White House Near Pernes-Les-Fontaines, is estimated at £300-500.
