The break-front shaped base has removable metal liners for umbrellas. The impressive piece is estimated at £1200-1800 at Chiswick Auctions’ sale of January 21.

Victorian overmantel mirror

This large Victorian gilt framed overmantel mirror, c.1860, was made by Charles Nosotti, and bears a trade label for his Oxford Street shop. Nosotti was originally from Milan but settled in Westminster as early as 1831. Primarily a carver and gilder, his firm is known as a looking-glass manufactory. The mirror has an estimate of £400-600 at Chiswick Auctions’ sale of January 13.

Mirror with japanned frame

This japanned wall mirror is offered with an estimate of £200-300 at Woolley & Wallis.

Although it was probably made in the late 19^th or early 20^th century, this mirror is made in the manner of an older, 18^th century piece. Its black and red frame was made with a technique known as ‘japanning’, which is used to make pieces look like they were made in Japan. The decorative border includes flowers and foliage. It is offered with an estimate of £200-300 at Woolley & Wallis on January 8.
