Five nature inspired art and antiques items at auction

Nature lovers and gardeners alike might love antiques and artworks for their home that are inspired by nature.

Here is a selection of five lots coming up at Special Auction Services (SAS) Antiques & Collectables sale on September 6.

1. Greenhouse painting

Artist Olwyn Bowey (b.1936) often paints garden pictures. Her landscape and still-life works frequently include the concept of the artist plantsman and she often paints outdoors and in her greenhouse studio in Sussex. Pictured top is one of her examples at the SAS auction.

2. Acorn scent bottle

A George V novelty scent bottle, by Schindler & Co. in the form of an acorn.

3. Art Nouveau vase

Tudric vase

An Art Nouveau Tudric Pewter vase estimated at £150-250.

 

The Art Nouveau style was inspired by natural forms such as the curves of plants and flowers. This early 20th century Tudric Pewter vase was designed by Archibald Knox for Liberty & Co (impressed with a Tudric mark).

4. Wedgwood plate

Charger

A 20th century glazed stoneware lustre charger estimated at £1000-1500.

Artist and designer Louise Powell (1865-1956) was inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement and worked at Wedgwood with her husband Alfred Powell. This chrager is a large example of her glazed stonewares.

5. Floral chair

Victorian chair

A Victorian gothic style chair estimated at £80-120.

 

This Victorian gothic style walnut upholstered chair features a floral design on the seat back and barley twisted columns.
