Feel majestic with royal castle collectables at auction

Queen Elizabeth celebrated her 96th birthday earlier this month and in June the Platinum Jubilee marks the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne in 1952.

Castle top case depicting Osborne House

Osborne House is a former royal residence in East Cowes, Isle of Wight, built between 1845-51 for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as a summer home.

The fashion for so-called castle-top boxes (vinaigrettes and card cases engraved or stamped with landmarks as tourist souvenirs) peaked around c.1830-60 and the items are now a large collecting area.

This c1810 design for a gryphon tripod table with three English School 19th century designs for sidetables, possibly for a decorative scheme at Buckingham Palace, are to be offered at Dreweatts on May 10 with an estimate of £500-700.

Royal performance memorabilia

A collection of Royal ephemera including a silk programme for Windsor Castle performance of Romeo et Juliette in 1898 as well as various paper programmes for musical evenings from the 1890s as well as cards from Osborne House and a leaf from service sheet at Chapel Royal, Buckingham Palace from 1843 for the christening of Princess Alice. The group is £300-500 at SAS on May 10-11.
