Ceramic decorations at auction to brighten your walls

Six pottery plates by the late artist Bernard Kay (1927-2021) will be offered with an estimate of £100-200 at Mallams on July 28.

Here is a selection coming up at auction.

1. Bernard Kay pottery plates

In the sale of the studio of the late artist Bernard Kay (1927-2021) at Mallams are a number of works by the artist as well as items he collected.

These six pottery plates (pictured above) were made in the French region of Vallauris c.1955 and are offered with an estimate of £100-200 at Mallams on July 28. Each is signed and dated and the largest is 9.5in (24cm) in diameter.

A large Continental glazed pottery armorial charger estimated at €150-250 on July 27 at Fonsie Mealy.

This large Continental glazed pottery armorial charger features a crest with the motto ‘Non Sidi’ inside a border of running deer. The 23in (58cm) charger is estimated at €150-250 on July 27 at Fonsie Mealy.

3. Delftware charger

An 18th century Delftware charger in the Chinese manner estimated at £200-300 at Trevanion.

This 18th century Delftware charger is tin glazed earthenware decorated in the Chinese manner with daoist auspicious panels to the border. The 13in (33cm) diameter plate is estimated at £200-300 on July 28 at Trevanion Auctioneers.

4. Rachel Bishop for Moorcroft plate

A Rachel Bishop Moorcroft plate with hypericum estimated at £40-60 on July 29 at Special Auction Services.

This Moorcroft plate is designed by Rachel Bishop and features a hypericum plant (known as St John's wort). It is estimated at £40-60. Bishop joined Moorcroft in 1993, as only its fourth designer in almost a hundred years.

In 1997 the Moorcroft Design Studio was formed with eight designers, with Bishop as head designer.

The 10in (26cm) diameter plate will be offered on July 29 at Special Auction Services.

5. Philip Richardson for Moorcroft plate

A Moorcroft plate designed by Philip Richardson and estimated at £150-250 on July 29-31 at Hutchison Scott.

This Moorcroft plate is by designer Philip Richardson. The c.1990 Reeds at Sunset design on a multicoloured ground was previously sold at Phillips and is this time offered at £150-250 on July 29-31 at Hutchinson Scott.
