Buy into the Old Masters trend: Add some Classic artworks to your home
08 July 2022 The major auction houses around the world have this week been focusing on Classic art: from antiquity and into the 20th century.Traditionally Old Masters are defined as works by master painters working in Europe from before 1800. However, now Old Master auctions include works by British artists as well as some 19th century works.
Here is a selection of lots in the Old Masters and Classic genre coming up at auctions on thesaleroom.com.
Floral still life
This still life of flowers in an ornamental urn is believed to be by circle of Gerard van Spaendonck (in the auctioneer's opinion, a work by an unidentified artist working in the artist's style and during the period of the artist's life). It is offered with an estimate of £3000-4000 at Roseberys on July 19. The auction house believes it is closely related to a canvas held at Anglesey Abbey, Cambridgeshire entitled 'Still Life with Flowers in an Urn and Two Parrots' which has been attributed to Jakob Bogdani (1658-1724) or Philip Reinagle (1749-1833).
