Buy in to historic political collectables at auction
20 September 2022 With a new prime minister in power, perhaps it is time to buy some parliamentary collectables?Coming to auction next week is a collection of items from the estate of Edward Baldwin, grandson of Stanley Baldwin (1867-1947), the 1st Earl of Bewdley and the three-times British prime minister during the 1920s-30s.
The items will be sold at Mallams Library sale on September 22-23 and its October 12 picture sale.
Among the highlights is this striking bronze bust of Stanley Baldwin by the English sculptor Newbury Abbot Trent (1885-1953) (pictured above).
Baldwin was from an extraordinary family which included Rudyard Kipling (his first cousin) as well as the painters and designers Edward Burne-Jones and Edward Poynter (his uncles).
For more prime minister related lots, at Sworders art sale next month it offers a painting said to depict Margaret Thatcher as she made her first speech to the House of Commons after being elected Prime Minister in May 1979.
