Buy a piece of Country House class at an online auction this month
22 January 2021 Occasionally the contents of a grand country house comes to auction allowing buyers to secure an item from a traditional British estate.Next week Golding Young & Mawer is to offer the untouched collection of a Warwickshire country house.
Newbold Pacey Hall has been the seat of the Little family since the house was built by William Little in c.1780-90, when he inherited the site and an older, probably Tudor house.
Both the Grade II-listed mansion and its contents are up for sale.
William Little portrait
Among the highlights of the two-day auction on January 27-28 is a portrait of former owner of the home William Little, c.1826, by Thomas Kirkby (1796- c.1847) estimated at £1000-2000.
Royal hair lockets
A rare collection of hair lockets is also a notable inclusion.
Each in a labelled gold frame, they purport to offer locks of hair from Edward IV, George II, George III, Queen Charlotte, Ernest King of Hanover, George IV, William IV and The Duke of Wellington.
The collection is offered together with an account of the opening of Charles I coffin on April 1, 1813 – as penned by the royal physician Sir Henry Halford who was witness to the occasion.
The estimate for the collection is £1500-2500.
George III longcase clock
Other highlights include a Barraud of Cornhill George III mahogany longcase clock estimated at £1500-2000.
Japanned cabinet
A late 17th-early 18th century Japanned cabinet estimated at £3000-5000 is also among the lots on the first of the two day sale.
Grand Tour landscape
Among the Grand Tour-related items in the auction are two pictures by Jacob More (1740-93), including The Falls of Tivoli which is estimated at £20,000-30,000.
