Buy a piece from an ‘oversized jewellery box’

The art and antiques collection from the home of jeweller Elizabeth Gage is coming to auction this month.

The Grade II listed former home of jeweller Elizabeth Gage MBE housed her eclectic collection of decorative objects, including furniture, works of art, Asian Art, pictures, ceramics and garden ornaments.

Auction house Dreweatts is offering her collection from The Old School House at its next Interiors sale on June 14-15.

Each room had a bright colour theme and viewing it was like “lifting the lid on an oversized jewellery box”.

Many of her pieces were decorated by Graham Carr, the artist, painter and designer who is noted for his whimsical neo-gothic painted surfaces.

Here is a selection of items coming up for auction.

Love seat

This c.1890 late Victorian armchair or 'love seat' was upholstered by Graham Carr and is estimated at £400-600.

 

Centre table

Centre table

This green painted centre table has a simulated marble decoration (probably by Graham Carr) and is estimated at £400-600.

Red lacquered set

Red Lacquer Set

A group of red painted and lacquered items including a bucket, pots and a what not. The group is estimated at £150-250.

Cabbage centre piece

Cabbage ceramic

This cabbage ceramic is by artist Lady Anne Gordon, Dowager Marchioness of Aberdeen (1924-2007). Gordon was a ceramic artist best known for her models of artichokes and cabbages. This example is estimated at £250-350.
