Brighten up your fireplace for summer with these accessories
01 July 2021 If you have a fireplace at home why not spruce it up for summer?It might be the heart of the home in winter but there are many ways to make your hearth more appealing with accessories. Below are five accessory ideas to bid for at auction.
And if you haven’t got a fireplace, what about an artwork of one? This watercolour on paper (above) is by Contemporary artist Lottie Cole. Called Little Fire Place (2021), it has an estimate of £50 and is being auctioned for charity at Dreweatts’ Art on a Postcard Summer Auction in aid of The Hepatitis C Trust running until July 8.
1. Overmantel mirror
All good fireplaces need an overmantel mirror. This Victorian overmantel mirror has its original plate glass and is estimated at £100-200 at Wilson 55 on July 8 at its fine and classic interiors sale.
2. Fire screen
This floral fire screen is believed to be 18th century and later. The rectangular floral needlework panel is on a mahogany and walnut base and estimated at £300-500 in Bonhams’ Collection sale July 7.
3. Candlesticks
A fireplace can be improved with a pair of candlesticks on the mantel to make a statement. This pair of late 18th or early 19th century brass candlesticks come from the estate of the late Barbara Humble in Bradford-on-Avon. They are estimated at £100-150 at Woolley & Wallis’ Furniture, Works of Art and Clocks sale on July 6-7.
4. Vase
This Moorcroft ‘The Mighty Oak Tree’ trial vase will brighten up any shelf, mantel piece or table. At 8in (21cm) high it is offered in Potteries Auctions’ Rare 20th Century British Pottery, Antique Furniture, Fine Art, Militaria, Coins, Watches, Jewellery three day sale on July 8-10 with bids currently around £85.
5. Chair
After putting a lot of work in decorating your fireplace you need a nice chair to sit in to enjoy the improvements. This late 20th century Windsor armchair is estimated at £30-50 at Special Auction Services’ Antiques & Collectables sale on July 6.
