Back of the net: Five striking lots from specialist football memorabilia sale

Stacey's auction on May 30 will offer plenty of interesting and affordable lots relating to many of the league’s clubs – and some non-league ones too. The items range from historic lots to memorabilia from modern times and they vary in type from programmes, tickets, stickers to shirts and boots.

No matter which club you support – one of the Premier League’s big boys or one of the comparative minnows from the lower leagues – you’re sure to find something that will pique your interest.

The whole catalogue is available here, but here's a pick of five lots that caught our eye.

1. Bobby Moore programmes

A collection of West Ham football programmes relating to the career of the great Bobby Moore is among the lots at Stacey’s. It comprises every programme for each West Ham first team game in which he played. This includes all League, League Cup, FA Cup and European (excluding away fixtures in the 1965-66 season at Dortmund and Olympiakos).

The programmes range from the England captain’s first match against Manchester United in the 1958-59 season to the last against Hereford in the 1974-74 season.

The collection is housed in 11 official West Ham modern programme binders and is estimated at £600-650.

2. International match pennant

The pennant carried by Scotland captain Colin Hendry for the European Championship play-off match against England at Wembley in November 1999 is estimated at £350-400 at Stacey’s.

A photo of Hendry walking out with the pennant and another exchanging it with England captain Alan Shearer is included in the lot.

Scotland won the match 1-0 with Don Hutchison scoring the goal, but it was not enough to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the play-off first leg at Hampden Park.

3. 1934 FA Cup final programme

A 1934 FA Cup final programme – estimated at £300-340 at Stacey’s.

Among the FA Cup final programmes offered at the Stacey’s sale is this one from 1934. The final that year was between Manchester City and Portsmouth, which City won 2-1.

City had lost in the final the year before to Everton. The 1934 victory was their second FA Cup win, after their 1904 triumph.

This copy of the programme has a professional repair to spine and new staples, and is estimated at £300-340.

4. Liverpool signed football

An official football signed by players from Liverpool’s 1988-89 FA Cup winning team – estimated at £160-180 at Stacey’s.

This official Liverpool ball is signed by the club’s players from the 1988-89 FA Cup winning team. The 18 signatures include those of Ian Rush, Bruce Grobbelaar, Ray Houghton, Peter Beardsley, Jan Molby and Alan Hansen.

The Liverpool team that season also won Charity Shield and narrowly lost the League title to Arsenal in the final match. The ball carries an estimate of £160-180.

5. Arsenal shirt

An Arsenal home shirt from the 2004-05 season – estimated at £150-170 at Stacey’s.

A number 11 Robin van Persie match worn Arsenal shirt from the 2004-05 season is estimated at £150-170 at Stacey’s.

The short sleeve home shirt made by Nike has a patch to arm stating ‘2003/2004 Premier League Winners’.
