5 sporting items coming up for auction this week
07 April 2025 With estimates from £400, here are five sporting highlights to watch out for this week
Programmes for the first European Cup final between Real Madrid v Reims on June 13 1956 are relatively rare. This one, which is lacking the Champagne advert sticker but otherwise in good condition, could be yours for £400-600 at Lockdales on April 8.
This time of the year is when the sporting calendar starts heating up with cup finals, horse racing grand slams and the business end of league campaigns.
There are interesting items to watch at auction this week, too. Here are five of our top picks.
1. Manchester United bench from the Stretford End

This wood and cast-iron bench was part of the Stretford End for over two decades before making way for the re-developed stand in 1992. It was salvaged from the re-development by the vendor’s family and has been signed by Denis Law. Estimate £8000-10,000 at Hansons on April 10.
2. Racing colours of the Duke of Westminster

Fred Archer won the Derby of 1886 on the Duke of Westminster's Ormonde wearing these colours. From the York Racecourse collection, it comes with letters of correspondence between the former owner and York Racecourse. It comes with a £4000-6000 estimate at Ryedale Auctioneers on April 11.
3. 1950 World Cup winner’s medal

A winner’s medal from the 1950 World Cup could be yours for £7000-9000 at Hansons on April 10. The medal awarded to a Brazil player is inscribed with the recipient’s initials on the reverse.
4. JPR Williams Bridgend jersey

JPR Williams was known as a tough, no-nonsense player – for club and country. This jersey was worn during the game against the All Blacks where Williams suffered the famous (and horrendous) face injury after being stamped on. Estimate £400-800 at Rogers Jones.
