A superb Regency sampler, embroidered in silk with various stitches in fine linen with a plethora of spot motifs including an ornamental bridge over a lake with dog, swans and weeping willow, a hive with swarming bees, an elaborate tree house, another house, a windmill, animals, birds, butterflies, vases of flowers etc. Woven inscription 'M.Joy/1816', all within an angular floral border. 14.25in. x 11in. 36cm. x 28cm. ++Three or four tiny insect holes. Gilt-wood frame and glazing original.
