A Black Slate Mantel Clock with Long Duration, signed Achille Brocot, No.4486, circa 1870, the flat top case with canted fluted corners and marble panels beneath, 5-1/4-inch white enamel dial with Roman numerals, recessed dial centre with visible Brocot escapement and signed, long duration movement with three barrels between the plates and two further barrels positioned to the movement backplate, movement backplate stamped AB within a star and numbered 4486, Brocot suspension, 39cm high Achille Brocot (b.Paris 1817, d.1878). An eminent maker who devised his own escapement and adjustable pendulum suspension. See Baillie (GH) Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World, page 41.
