The Letter (1940) . Original US lobby card, signed by Bette Davis. . Unframed: 11 x 14 in. (28 x 36 cm). Framed: 16 5/8 x 19 3/4 in. (42.3 x 50.2 cm). . Conservation framed with UV plexiglass. . It is rare for anyone to have an original lobby card signed, as the majority of signatures are on pieces of paper, photographs and video/DVD sleeves.. . This film directed by William Wyler, and stars Bette Davis, Herbert Marshall and James Stephenson. The screenplay by Howard E. Koch is based on the 1927 play of the same name by W. Somerset Maugham. This classic film noir was nominated for seven Oscars. Bette Davis's gave a brilliant performance and was nominated for Best Actress, which she lost out to Ginger Rogers in Kitty Foyle. The director William Wyler was also nominated for an Oscar, which went to John Ford for The Grapes of Wrath. This was certainly a very tough year. This film was also up for the Best Picture of the year, and missed out to Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca.. . Excellent condition, colours remaining very bright.. . Material of piece: Paper.
