Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1925) . Original German poster. . Unframed: 55 x 37 in. (140 x 94 cm). . Linen backed. . During the 1920s and 1930s film posters in Germany were printed using the stone lithography technique, which is amongst the very highest print quality. There is a German censor stamp on the top right dated 1925.. . Exceptionally rare. This is only the second example to have surfaced to-date.. . This American silent epic adventure film was directed by Fred Niblo and was based on the novel of the same name. The film stars Ramon Novarro in the title role. The film tells the story of Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince, who was wrongly imprisoned as a result of his boyhood friend Messala's corrupt ways. Judah Ben-Hur is sent off as a galley slave, and his mother and sister are imprisoned. Owing to Judah Ben-Hur's tenacity to stay alive, he returns to his homeland, and not able to find his mother and sister, who he believes are dead, he takes revenge against Messala. . . Excellent condition, colours remaining very bright, minor restoration to folds and border.. . Material of piece: Paper, backed on linen
