Portrait Miniature of Alfred Harmsworth Senior. By Seymour Lucas, R.A., Ca. 1870s. Facing ¾ left in his barrister attire. Ornate gilt wood frame, 5 ½ x 6 ½". Barrister Alfred Harmsworth (1837-1889) married Geraldine Mary Maffett on Sept. 21 1864 in St. Stephen's Church, Dublin. They had 14 children (three died in infancy). Of them several became the proprietors of Britain's leading newspapers, five of whom were honored with hereditary titles - two viscounts, one baron and two baronets, while another son designed the iconic Perrier mineral water bottle. Frame chipped upper right. From the estate of the late Lord Harmsworth.
