Montague Dawson [British, 1890-1973], RMSA, FRSA. "Racing off the Coast". Oil on canvas, 36 x 24". Signed. Son of a keen yachtsman and grandson of marine painter Henry Dawson, Montague Dawson by the 1930's was considered one of the greatest living marine artists. Dawson's patrons included American Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and Lyndon B. Johnson as well as the British Royal Family. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Society of Marine Artists and occasionally at the Royal Academy. His much-prized work is known for the strict accuracy of nautical detail. Canvas relined. Light varnish residue, could use a cleaning. Fine craquelure. Matted and framed.
