Property from the Estate of Jimmy Younger (lots 23-41)

Painted in muted turquoise green and manganese with trailing roses, the quartered cover with shell-molded rim, the finial as a conical hat, the lozenge-shaped bowl with scroll handles and raised on four scroll feet, incised X mark

width 16 in.
40.7 cm.

Provenance

Aronson Antiquairs, Amsterdam, bearing label

Catalogue note

The form probably follows a silver prototype, and was later produced in multiple European ceramics factories, most notably at Höchst by Georg Ignaz Hess or by Johann Gottfried Becker. The form is recorded in Chinese porcelain made for the export market and examples of similar forms have been documented in under-glaze blue and famille-rose palettes. A Chinese Export example, formerly in the collection of Mrs. Alan L. Corey and decorated with a continental, probably Dutch coat of arms, first sold in these rooms, December 6, 1974, lot 261, and entered the collection of Nelson and Happy Rockefeller, sold again in these rooms, January 18, 2019, lot 311.
