A Regency gilt-bronze-mounted, brass-inlaid, rosewood and ebony centre table, circa 1815, attributed to George Bullock

the green porphyry top within a brass foliate inlaid border above a conforming frieze on a collared, turned tapering stem inlaid with foliate bands, on a similarly inlaid square plinth cast with acanthus and paterae resting on giltwood winged paw feet with castors

82cm high, 80cm wide, 48cm deep

Provenance
Almost certainly commissioned by His Majesty's Government for Napoleon Bonaparte for The Drawing Room, Longwood House, St Helena, 1815-1821;

Then probably Sir General Hudson Lowe, Governor of St Helena, by whom it was shipped to his London house on Hereford Street in 1823;

Possibly acquired by the 7th Earl of Elgin (1766-1841) and his wife Mary Nisbet, Biel Estate, East Lothian, Scotland;

By descent to Robert Adam Nisbet-Hamilton (d. 1877) and his wife Mary Bruce (d.1883);

By descent to their daughter Mary Georgina Constance Nisbet-Hamilton also known as Mrs Hamilton Ogilvy;

Inherited by her nephew Lt Col John Patrick Nisbet Hamilton Grant of Kilgraston (1872-1950) at Biel Estate, East Lothian, Scotland;

Inherited by his relative Vice-Admiral Basil Barrington Brooke (1895- 1983);

Thence by descent to the present owner.
