A Louis XVI giltwood armchair, circa 1780, attributed to Jean-Bapstiste Claude Sené

with a flat back, detached columns, sculpted with flowers, with a pink silk upholstery; (gilding refreshed)

Height. 37 ¾ in, width. 24 ¾ in

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Haut. 96 cm, larg. 63 cm

Catalogue note
This armchair has some rather original sculpted ornamentation, which can also be found on a set of furniture by Jean-Baptiste Sené, comprising a sofa and four armchairs (lot 127A), four curved-back chairs (lot 127B) and four voyeuses (lot 127C), which was sold by Sotheby's in Monaco on 15 June 1981. A second sofa was part of Madame Douine's collection, sold in April 1934, lot 114. These comparisons link this armchair to salon furniture made by Jean-Baptiste Sené in the late 1780s.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
