This elaborately carved giltwood mirror is derived from a pattern published by Matthias Lock in his Six Sconces, 1744, pl. 4.1 A pier glass to this design was supplied by Lock to the 2nd Earl Poulett for the Tapestry Room at Hinton House, Somerset (c.1735) now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (acc. no. W.8-1960). At auction, mirrors of this model have been offered at Christie’s New York, 6-20 October 2023, lot 454, Christie’s New York, 19 October 2000, lot 224, and another from the collection of Gerald Hochschild, Sotheby's London, 1 December 1978, lot 39.
