Height. 195 1/2 in, width. 70 cm

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Catalogue note

A tapestry of the same dimensions, from the same workshop, depicting Xenophon, was on the Paris art market (Galerie Deroyan) a few years ago. The mythological and historical subjects in vogue in the 17th and early 18th centuries were taken up by the transalpine workshops, as shown by this door, whose frames are reminiscent of the French productions of the Gobelins. In the 1750s, Naples also followed the French influence by commissioning Pietro Duranti's Royal Manufactory to produce the famous Don Quixote series, woven according to Gobelins models.
