An exceptional center piece designed by E. Reiber for Christofle, Paris, 1878-1879
rectangular with rounded corners, standing on four legs in the shape of a bunch of pine cones, the body decorated with gold and silver quince and plum blossoms on a fawn patina background, the two handles formed by bunches of pine cones, with its silver-plated metal lining, the base applied Christofle & Co, under the base and the lining stamped 1039172

de forme rectangulaire aux angles arrondis, reposant sur quatre pieds en forme de bouquet de pommes de pin, le corps orné de fleurs de cognassier et de prunier dorées et argentées sur fond patiné fauve, les deux anses formées de bouquets de pommes de pin, avec sa doublure en métal argenté, la base de la jardinière estampée Christofle & Co, sous la base et la doublure estampées 1039172

Catalogue note
Le dessin à été fourni à Christofle par Emile Auguste Reiber (1826-1893). A l'origine, elle fut conçue pour faire partie d'une garniture de cheminée accompagnée d'une paire de candélabres.
Une jardinière identique est conservée au musée d'Orsay à Paris et est illustrée dans Le Japonisme, Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais, Paris, 1988, RMN, sous le n° 112 p. 169. Una autre est illustrée dans Julius Hoffmann, Der Modern Stil, Arnoldsche, 2006, p. 132.
Un exemplaire de cette jardinière a figuré à l'Exposition Universelle de Paris en 1878.
