An Ansbach porcelain and Louis XV gilt-bronze mounted square dish, mid-18th century

each side painted with a bird perched on a branch, a bouquet of flowers, a butterfly and a hare, with the underglaze blue A mark

12cm. high, 19.5cm. wide

Catalogue note

Alexander, nephew of Margrave Carl von Brandenburg-Onolzbach, took over the management of the newly founded Ansbach porcelain manufactory in 1757 after travelling throughout Europe and observing the new porcelain, when the "Chinoiserie" style was being replaced with the Rococo or Rocaille style.

This factory produced porcelain in the Meissen style, sold either painted or white, and was all the more similar to Saxony's production as some Meissen workers fleeing the Seven Years' War settled in Ansbach.
