Catalogue note
This painting depicting the royal family of Mysore resembles the image of 'Rama Pattabhisheka' - Lord Rama enthroned after his triumphant return to Ayodhya. The king of Mysore is depicted as the divine ruler, Rama, seated with his wife Sita on his lap, with his brothers at his side, and Hanuman (the divine monkey) kneeling at his feet. The composition illustrates the interchange of role between king, deity and devotee (Jackson, A. and Jaffer, A. (ed.), Maharaja - The Splendour of India's Royal Courts, London, 2009, p.94-97).
