A Very Rare Early Chelsea Beaker, Circa 1750

of fluted form with a flare rim, painted, in famille rose enamels with a song bird perched on a trailing branch hanging from blue pierced rockwork, flanked by a flowering branches from rockwork and loose leaves and flower sprigs, the interior with pendant blue pierced rockwork, brown-line waved rim.

Catalogue note
It appears that only one other beaker painted with this decoration has survived. The example has sold three times at Sotheby's London: The Property of a Lady, November 3, 1964, lot 25; The Selwyn Parkinson Collection, June 21, 1966, lot 118, and again April 14, 1997, lot 190, now in a private collection. No other examples appear to have been sold at auction since 1997.
