John Ferneley Senior (British, 1782–1860) A review order portrait of Colonel Ward’s charger, with ornamental bridle and the shabraque and sheepskin of The Royal Horse Artillery.  There are mounted soldiers, a gun carriage and an uncoupled field gun in the background. Signed lower left, 'John Ferneley F.  M.M. 1838' Oil on canvas The information that this was Colonel Ward’s horse was inscribed on the reverse of the canvas before it was lined.  In 1855 a Lt. Colonel Ward of The Royal Horse Artillery served at the siege and fall of Sebastopol and at the Battle of Tchernaya. Dimensions: (Canvas) 28 in. (H) x 36 in. (W)  (Frame) 34 in. (H) x 42 in. (W)
