German, 18th century after Hans Hoffman (1545-1592), Wilhelm von Breidbach-Burresheim (died 1573) and his wife Anna Kammerer von Worms His portrait inscribed, 'Aetatis 53 Ao 1571' hers, 'Aetatis 40 Ao 1571' Signature indistinctly lower right on the male portrait Oil on oak panel The sitters are ancestors of the Brömser family from Rudesheim. Their daughter, Lauretha von Breidbach-Burresheim, married in 1565 Heinrich Engelbrecht IV Brömser von Rudesheim who died in 1567. A son of that marriage, Hans Reichard Brömser von von Rudesheim (1566-1622), married in 1588 Margarethe von Kronberg who died in 1609. A daughter of Hans and Margarethe’s marriage, Anna Eleonora Brömser von von Rudesheim (died 1658), married Wilhelm von Metternich who died in 1700. On the reverse of the husband’s portrait is a coat of arms. Above this has been added an inscription which states that the last of the male line of the family, Heinrich Bromser von Rudesheim, died in 1668. Dimensions: (Frame) 34 in. (H) x 25 in.
