James Pollard (British, 1792-1867) Mr. MacNamara's Gig Oil on canvas With a Pawsey & Payne sticker verso Property of a gentleman From the collection of Peter Roe Provenance: Ex collection Mrs Francis Brandon, a descendant of Mr James Macnamara; Sotheby's, March 10th, 1965, lot 165; Pawsey & Payne, 1 Bury Street, London; Provenance: Sotheby's, 'The Mr and Mrs Jack R. Dick Collection of English Sporting and Conversation Paintings' Final Part, 28th April 1976, Lot 194 James Pollard, Mr Macnamara's Gig, outside his yard, Castle Street, near Finsbury Square, London. Edward MacNamara, ancestor of Mrs. Brandon, enjoyed the sole contract for the Royal Mail. A close friend of Pollard's he founded the London General Omnibus Company in 1855. Collections: Edward MacNamara; Mrs Frances Branon. Exhibited: Post Office Exhibition 1890.
