John Ferneley Senior (British, 1782-1860) Colonel Candy and members of the hunt in the foreground, Lord Rossmore, with the hounds on the Kilcloman Bridge, County Offaly, Ireland Oil on canvas In an 18th Century carved and gilded frame Provenance: Sotheby's Important Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century Paintings, 18th March 1970, Lot 109, 'The Hunt Scurry', John Fernley Senior, Colonel Candy and members of the hunt in the foreground, Lord Rossmore, with the hounds on the Kilcloman Bridge, County Offaly, in the background, signed and dated 1812. As a young man, Ferneley was comissioned to paint a series of subjects depicting members of the Rossmore family, their horses and properties in Ireland. The collection, the property of the Earl of Huntingdon, was sold at Sotheby's on April 7th, 1954, lots 122-29.
