"Martyrdom of Saint".
Ink and gouache on vellum.
Size: 29 x 22 cm; 61 x 50 cm (frame).
The work presents a very reduced landscape, focusing the attention on the figures. Three men, dressed in oriental clothes and turbans, are busy flaying and finishing off a saint who is being martyred with sticks pierced through his body. The saint, possibly one of the 48 martyrs of Cordoba, looks up as he is crudely held by his attackers. On the heavenly plane, a little angel addresses the martyr with a laurel wreath in his hands.
