CONSTANT VON BYON (Vienna, 1882 - ?).
"Portrait of a Lady indoors".
Oil on canvas.
In very good condition.
Provenance: French private collection in the north of Paris.
Measurements: 72 x 46 cm; 90 x 64 cm (frame).
In this canvas is represented a full-length lady dressed in a luxurious dress and a multitude of jewels, who looks at herself in a mirror in the intimacy of her ostentatious room. All the furnishings are detailed with great verisimilitude. There is a table with a half-open wastepaper basket, a jewellery box, a chair, a watch, and so on. The tapestry decorating the wall and the carpet are also visible. It is, in short, a domestic interior of a castle.
Constant Freiherr von Byon (1882 Vienna - ?¿) Austrian genre painter and landscape painter. No further biographical details are known; it is questionable whether this could be a pseudonym for an Austrian artist (Karl Kaufmann? Konstantin Stoitzner?). The signature shows "Byon" "04" and "pxt.", short for "pinxit" (Latin for "painted by").
