Fountain violet; France, Napoleon III; Late 19th century.
Gilt and blued bronze. Engraved glass.
Slight damage to the glass.
Measurements: 60 x 33 cm.
Fountain violetero that they present a base realized in gilded and bluing bronze, combined with a vase in the upper zone of cut crystal. The piece is supported on a circular base that bases its decoration on mouldings, which combine a gilded finish with a bluing one that presents plant motifs that are repeated rhythmically all around the perimeter. On top of these concentric circles is the foot of the fountain, which has a wide base and a grooved finish that holds the central plate of the fountain, also decorated with plant motifs. From the central area there is a structure containing the glass vase. This structure is dominated by the presence of a small, innocent and tender little sweetheart. Finally, as already mentioned, the piece ends with a bell-shaped vase with carved ornaments that reproduce plant elements inscribed in a fretwork, located in the upper area. Certain decorative elements are reminiscent of Rococo works, while others can be related more to Neoclassicism, a mixture that was common in 19th-century art.
