Description
Set of three armchairs and six armchairs, Louis XV.
French school eighteenth century, Louis XV period.
Made of carved wood, gilded and painted white. The seats are upholstered and upholstered in yellow silk with vegetal decoration.
Good state of preservation.
Measurements: 85 x 68 x 57 cm (armchairs), 93 x 195 x 69 cm (three-seater).
Sofa with a carved wooden structure, Louis XV style, characterised by the successful ornamentation throughout. Thus, we see cabriole legs, moulded profiles (especially at the waist and at the top) and sinuous curved forms typical of Louis XV furniture. In this case it is worth highlighting the upholstery, which follows the typical aesthetic patterns of the Louis XVI style, in ochre and yellow tones, with floral decoration combined with scrolls and vegetal elements.
The set also includes six elegant Louis XVI period armchairs, decorated in a style typical of their time. The cabriole legs, common from 1715 onwards, are finished off with scrolls on the lower part, all the wood of the piece is completely carved and gilded on the edges, and painted white on the inside, typical of the Louis XV period and giving the furniture an elegant, sober and neat style, marked by the courtly rococo period. The Louis XV backrest is decorated with synthetic scrolls in the shoulder area and with a cleaner and more sober ornamentation in the centre. The seat is upholstered in yellow silk with vegetal motifs.
The Louis XV style corresponds to courtly French Rococo, the main style of this century. However, the usual movement of these examples is softened as an influence of works already in the Neoclassical style of the 19th century.
